Foundation poured for Las Vegas SkyVue observation wheel

By | March 8, 2012

The massive concrete foundation has been poured for SkyVue, which will be the largest observation wheel in the Western Hemisphere and third largest in the world when it opens July 4, 2013.

Located across from Mandalay Bay, SkyVue will tower 500 feet above the Las Vegas Strip and feature 32, 24-person gondolas and offer two 50,000-square-foot HD LED Multi Media displays at the center of the wheel. Visible from across the Las Vegas valley, SkyVue is destined to become an iconic entertainment and retail destination for Las Vegas visitors and residents.

More than 100 cement trucks were required to fill the foundation throughout the morning of March 1, 2012, with several lining up for an amazing photo opportunity to showcase the beginning of the most significant Strip development of 2012.

The hardware for the SkyVue project is being supplied by San Diego, Calif.-based LEDCOR. Consulting on the project is Keith Robertson, president of JKR & Associates. Wheel construction will be overseen by John Woods, president of Norcross Construction.

Led by Howard Bulloch and David Gaffin, both of Compass Investments, the project will also include 20,000 square feet of convention space and 200,000 square feet of retail space, dining and entertainment options.
