Hawaiian Falls invests $3 million in Roanoke Waterpark

The biggest news coming out of Roanoke this week is yet another announcement about a second big attraction to be added to Hawaiian Falls Roanoke.

Hawaiian Falls opened the Roanoke park last summer and following a successful inaugural year, promptly announced plans to expand the waterpark with a new $1.6 million multi-slide complex, more shade, additional food service options and other guest amenities. In an unprecedented move, Hawaiian Falls announced they are adding another $1.55 million thrill ride called the Double BowlsEye from SplashTacular, the largest U.S.-based waterslide manufacturer, at its Roanoke, Texas waterpark. After only one season, Hawaiian Falls will invest more than $3 million in the Roanoke park.

Coming off a record-breaking 2011 season, Hawaiian Falls is investing more than $7.8 million in total improvements at all four Dallas/Fort Worth parks. In addition, a new $10 million Hawaiian Falls is currently under construction in Waco, Texas. All improvements and additions will be completed by Memorial Day 2012. The new developments will create an additional 50 seasonal positions this summer, bringing Hawaiian Falls’ total workforce to more than 1,000 employees in Texas.

The Double BowlsEye will launch two separate two-person rafts simultaneously in opposite directions from a 60-foot platform into separate 54-inch enclosed tubes. The rafts rapidly accelerate into near-total darkness when suddenly the thrill ride is accentuated by a light show. Within seconds, the riders are propelled into daylight again as they enter a massive bowl, racing against the other raft. Each raft exits the bowl through its own unique porthole to splash down into a finish lane.
