Certain Golden Ticket Awards get a rotating
format
EEach year, a few categories go into a rotation
while newer categories are introduced. The
2006 edition sees Best Capacity returning after
a three year rotation, as well as Best Theming
of an Attraction. A new category, Best Concert
Venue in a Park was introduced.
Moving
lines quickly is very important to parks
wanting to reach a quality capacity to their
attractions. Cedar Point once again takes
the Golden Ticket for moving their lines
efficiently. The Point was the previous winner
on this rotating category.
Other finalists are Magic Kingdom and Disneyland,
partly due to their free Fast Pass system
available to all guests. Holiday World and
Knoebels also earn high marks in the category.
Best
Theming of an Attraction saw a strong competition
between previous champion Dueling Dragons
at Islands of Adventure and the new-for-2006
Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The
elaborately-themed runaway roller coaster encountering
a fabled yeti made an admirable charge, but
the over-the-top experience of castle queuing,
themed trains, and thematic environment let
Dueling Dragons at the Universal property stay
on top.
Two
more Disney attractions, Twilight Zone Tower
of Terror and Indiana Jones and the Temple
of the Forbidden Eye rated highly. Universal's
Revenge of the Mummy closed out the finalists.
A
trickier category for our panel may have
been this year’s
Best Concert Venue in a Park. The top four
places were all separated by one percentage
point.Taking first place was Paramount’s
Kings Island. Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Hersheypark
and Six Flags Darien Lake closely followed.
Universal Orlando closed out the category.
